Seoul Arena:
Dedicated To K-Pop
Four districts in Seoul plan to jointly build a concert hall dedicated exclusively to K-pop, according to the Korea Times.
Heads of the four districts have signed a memorandum with private investors to construct what they are calling the Seoul Arena on a 33,000-square-meter site that currently hosts a parking lot.
As it happens, the city of Seoul itself has been assessing where to build a performance hall at the urging of South Korea’s cultural ministry.
The hall will create about 3,000 jobs and cost about 200 billion won ($179 million), of which 25 billion will be provided by the national government.
Several other districts in Seoul have expressed an intention to offer proposals but the plan from the four districts, which are located in a bedroom community in the northeastern portion of the capital, has a head start since they already have investors lined up.
As the area does not have any cultural complex, the project is being promoted as economic stimulus for the region.
