Jack White’s NYC Disappointment
Many people are speculating as to why Jack White cut short his Saturday performance at New York City’s Radio City Music Hall. One thing is for sure, the former White Striper ticked off a lot of fans.
White’s first of two nights at the famed venue got off to a good start with the guitarist playing selections from his new album Blunderbuss.
However, sometime around the 50-minute mark, White put down his guitar and walked off stage.
As to why, well, a couple of reasons have been offered. The New York Observer reports White may have been somewhat disenchanted with the audience’s level of enthusiasm (or lack thereof), at one point asking if he was at an “NPR convention.”
The newspaper also reported that White had several exchanges with a shirtless man in the front row who was eventually removed by security.
But bad sound may have been what pushed White over the edge Saturday night. The Observer cites a member of the Music Hall’s security team as saying the guitarist “wasn’t happy with the sound.”
As you can probably guess, White’s fans weren’t all that happy with the abbreviated concert. About 100 concertgoers gathered outside Radio City Music Hall, some screaming, “F*ck Jack White!”
Evidently White was on his best behavior Sunday when he played his second night at RCMH. Rolling Stone reports he played for approximately 85 minutes plus a four-song encore before ending the evening by leading the audience in an acoustic singalong of “Goodnight Irene.”
