Rapides Coliseum Bond Ballot

Officials in Alexandria, La., hope taxpayers come through Nov. 6 and approve a bond issue to fund a $23 million renovation project for the city’s Rapides Parish Coliseum.

Proposed upgrades to the nearly 50-year-old facility would include expanding seating capacity from 7,500 to 10,800, including about 18 skyboxes, new staging, light, sound, video and electrical systems, new air conditioning and heating systems, dressing rooms and a basketball court, according to the Alexandria Town Talk.

The bond issue would be backed by a $2.5 milllion property tax to cover upgrades and renovations. Residents will also be asked to approve a $1 million property tax to cover venue operations for the next 20 years, the paper said.
