Changes: John Legend, Renaissance

An unfinished album means you may have to wait until next year to see John Legend in concert. You won’t have to wait nearly as long to see Renaissance, although a medical condition has forced the group to postpone the first few dates of its upcoming tour.

Legend took to the Internet’s series of tubes today to ask his fans to wait a little longer.

“I’m writing with a change of plans to share with you. As you all know, I’ve been working on my new album, Love in the Future, with Kanye and the rest of my creative team for a while now. I planned to release the album this fall and go on tour to perform new songs from the album. We announced the dates before we’d finished the album because we were sure we’d finish the album in time. But, unfortunately, while the creative process has been exciting and I’m pretty certain we’re going to deliver the best album of my career so far, the timing hasn’t adhered to the schedule I originally envisioned. In other words, we’re not done with the album. And my team and I have made the agonizing decision to put off the tour until 2013 when we know we will have the new music done and will be ready to fully unveil the creative vision through the album and the live experience.”

Legend’s postponement does come with a couple of clarifications. His Oct. 17 show at the Seminole Hard Rock Hotel and Casino has been moved to April 10. Tickets purchased for the original date will be honored in April.

The soul singer also wants you to know that his concert at Atlantic City’s Borgata Hotel, Casino & Spa / Event Center will take place as planned on Oct. 27.

Legend wrote that he has never “postponed a tour or done anything like this before” and that he has only missed one show due to illness during his eight-year career.

A spinal injury has forced British prog band Renaissance to postponed the first nine dates of its U.S./Canada tour that was supposed to begin this week.

Vocalist Annie Haslam is the unlucky member diagnosed with the injury and will have to wear a Jewett Back Brace for two to three months, according to RenaissanceTouring.com.

Off the schedule are shows starting with Oct. 3 in Washington, D.C., at the Howard Theatre through Oct. 14 in Albany, N.Y., at The Egg. Cities affected include Atlanta, Montreal, Londonderry, Foxboro, and Florida towns Orlando, Clearwater and Fort Lauderdale.

The tour picks back up on Oct. 19 in Ridgefield, Conn., at the Ridgefield Playhouse. The band says it is working on rescheduling the dates in 2013.
