Vector Arena To
Introduce Theatre Setup

Auckland, New Zealand’s 12,000-seat Vector Arena unveiled a theatre/ballroom mode for artists wanting to play to 1,500 to 3,000.

Venue director Stuart Clumpas said that promoters of major acts complained that too often, the city’s two small venues – The Civic Theatre and ASB Theatre at the Edge – were booked out by long-season theatre productions.

Using curtains, and moving the stage closer to the seats in a semi-circle, would provide intimacy and ensure better sound and views, he said.

The theatre mode will be unveiled for Emmylou Harris & The Red Dirt Boys’ show Nov. 18.

Harris originally planned to bypass New Zealand after touring Australia because of the unavailability of a “cozy venue.”

Vector Arena was No. 24 in Pollstar’s Mid-Year Top 100 Arena Venues chart, selling 207,307 tickets.
