Win Concert Tickets By Impersonating Barbra

Including fees, a ticket to see Barbra Streisand in New York next week will cost you between $171.40 and $716.65. Local fans who don’t have that kind of cash can compete to win free tickets by taking part in a Babs impersonator contest.

Streisand is scheduled to play two nights in her hometown at the Barclays Center in Brooklyn, N.Y., Oct. 11 & 13 as part of her fall tour.

The impersonator contest takes place in downtown Brooklyn at Fulton Mall’s Albee Square the day of the second show.

The event, dubbed “Your Ticket To Barbra,” is brought to you by the Downtown Brooklyn Partnership and hosted by professional Barbra Streisand impersonator Gayle Robbins. Brooklyn Borough President Marty Markowitz will be there to make some special guest remarks.

Contestants can register beginning at 3 p.m. and the event begins at 4 p.m. You’ll want to look the part because the fun starts with “a Parade of Barbras.” A guest panel of judges will pick five finalists to move onto the vocal round. Contestants can either bring a backup track on CD or MP3 player and perform the Babs tune of their choice or sing along to live piano accompaniment from one of the following songs:

“Happy Days Are Here Again,” “People,” “The Way We Were,” “Don’t Rain On My Parade,” “Evergreen” (theme from “A Star Is Born”), or “On A Clear Day.”

The grand prize is two tickets to the Oct. 13 show at Barclays Center.

“You have to have chutzpah,” Robbins told the New York Daily News. “You show the audience you’re not a diva, but you’re a powerful woman. You know how to joke around with the audience, but you’re extremely serious about your art.”
