Art Garfunkel Postpones Tour

Days after missing two appearances at a Swedish festival, Art Garfunkel announced he won’t be making it to the rest of his scheduled 2012 shows. The dates are being called off because the singer is still recovering from a weakened vocal cord.

Garfunkel was supposed to appear at Sweden’s Night of the Proms, which took place in Goteborg Sept. 28 and Malmo Sept. 29. The Associated Press reported that he failed to show up at the events and flew home to the U.S. The festival’s organizer said that although Garfunkel appeared to be healthy, he hadn’t seemed confident about his voice.

A statement on Garfunkel’s website says he’s “been working on mending his voice” since being diagnosed with vocal cord problems in 2010.

“I had such hopes of being finally ready to perform. How painful to try and not be quite yet there,” Garfunkel said.

His manager, John Scher, added, “Art wants to perform, more than anything. He’s going to come back stronger than ever.”

The remaining 2012 dates were scheduled between October and December and included shows in Tarrytown, N.Y.; Milwaukee; Minneapolis; Catoosa, Okla.; Wichita, Kan.; Fort Worth, Texas; and Skokie, Ill.
