Festival Votes Begin
The voting for the European Festival Awards opened Oct. 5 as 250 outdoor events from more than 30 countries hope to pick up one of the much-coveted gongs.
Fans have until Nov. 7 to vote in the various categories, which include festivals from a wide range of places including so-called secondary markets such as Bulgaria, Croatia, Lithuania, Macedonia and Ukraine.
On Nov. 5, the 10 categories voted by fans will be reduced to shortlists, while the “more specialised categories” will be decided by an industry jury consisting of prominent booking agents, journalists and festival experts.
The winners will be announced at the European Festival Awards bash at the Oosterport Congress Centre in Groningen, The Netherlands, Jan. 9, the opening night of the Eurosonic Noorderslag conference and showcase festival.
Last year what’s now Europe’s primary festival gathering sold out as Hungary’s Sziget Festival, recently re-purchased by its original owners, was announced as the continent’s best major festival.
Steve Jenner, co-founder of Festival Awards Ltd. who’s recently returned to its helm, says it’s an honour and a privilege to once again be hosting the celebrations for the European festival producers, “many of which have had a tough time this year.”
