ICP’s “Hallowicked” Show Kicked Out Of Its Original Venue

Insane Clown Posse’s Halloween show is no longer taking place at the Royal Oak Music Theatre in the Detroit suburb of Royal Oak. The local police urged the venue to cancel the show based on the group’s reputation and its inclusion on the FBI’s National Gang Threat Assessment.

The Oct. 31 “Hallowicked” gig has been rescheduled for the same date at The Fillmore Detroit, which has hosted the event nearly every Halloween since 2003.

The Detroit Free Press obtained a Sept. 27 memo regarding the ICP concert that was sent to the Royal Oak Music Theatre’s general manager from Royal Oak Police Lieutenant Thomas Goad.

In the memo, Goad wrote that the Royal Oak Police Department would like the venue to consider calling off the show.

“Our concern is based on the number of concerts, throughout the country, in which ICP followers have created significant problems for local police departments. Insane Clown Posse’s followers have been given the name ‘Juggalos. In 2011, the FBI’s National Gang Threat Assessment listed Juggalos as an organized gang in their assessment of gangs located in Michigan.”

Goad cited an outdoor ICP concert in Ferndale, Mich., that required extra officers from neighboring jurisdictions to maintain order. He added that he wouldn’t want the venue to jeopardize its reputation for proving “high quality entertainment without causing an unnecessary strain on police resources.”

And what does ICP, which filed a lawsuit against the FBI in September about the Gang Threat Assessment, think about all of this?

In a statement on its website, the hip hop duo says “because the Insane Clown Posse and Psychopathic Records would NEVER let some cops get in the way of the Juggalos and Juggalettes havin’ a good ass time on Halloween night, the show has been moved!”

Tickets purchased for the Royal Oak Music Theatre will be honored at The Fillmore. And with a larger capacity at The Fillmore, more tickets for Hallowicked are on sale now. Also, the Hallowicked Afterparty has been moved to The Majestic Theatre in Detroit.
