Shifty Adventures With John Cale

John Cale has booked a round of West Coast co-bill dates with Cass McCombs for December. The Welsh musician and founding member of the Velvet Underground will also be playing three special nights in Brooklyn, N.Y., in January, including a tribute to Nico.

Cale is touring in support of Shifty Adventures in Nookie Wood. Released earlier this month on Domino Records imprint Double Six, the album is his first full-length studio effort in seven years. Shifty Adventures’ first track, “I Wanna Talk 2 U,” was co-produced by Danger Mouse.

Sounds like fans can expect even more U.S. dates to come because an announcement on Cale’s website refers to the upcoming gigs as “the first batch.”

Here are the shows that have been confirmed so far:

Dec. 4 – Portland, Ore., McMenamins Mission Theater
Dec. 6 – Seattle, Wash., Showbox At The Market
Dec. 9 – San Francisco, Calif., The Regency Ballroom
Dec. 11 – Chico, Calif., El Rey Theatre
Jan. 16 – Brooklyn, N.Y., Brooklyn Academy Of Music
Jan. 18 – Brooklyn, N.Y., Brooklyn Academy Of Music
Jan. 19 – Brooklyn, N.Y., Brooklyn Academy Of Music

The Jan. 16 appearance at BAM is being called “Life Along the Borderline: A Tribute to Nico.” BAM’s website promises that along with Cale, the evening will include more artists yet to be announced.

The Jan. 18-19 shows will feature Cale performing his 1973 album, Paris 1919, as well as tunes from throughout his career and material from Shifty Adventures. Cale will be accompanied by the Wordless Music Orchestra.

Tickets for the BAM events are on sale now. Tickets for the John Cale/Cass McCombs co-bill dates go on sale beginning Friday, Oct. 26.
