Cat Power Postpones European Tour

For those of you following the saga of Cat Power’s European tour, the dates have officially been postponed, following last week’s announcement that the excursion would go on without stage presentation. The singer says she needs time to focus on her health.

The European trek was scheduled to begin Nov. 26 in Amsterdam, Netherlands. The last stop was Dec. 14 in Brussels, Belgium.

The ups and downs of the fate of the tour have included talk of the singer’s money problems and struggles with angioedema, which WebMD says in rare cases can affect the throat, tongue, or lungs and “block the airways, causing difficulty breathing.” It may even “become life threatening.”

Early last week, Cat Power said the European tour might be canceled “due to bankruptcy & my health struggle with angioedema.” She had been updating fans on her health issues through posts on her Instagram and Twitter accounts. Several weeks ago she said she had been suffering from lymphatic angioedema in her throat and was doing much better after receiving treatment in Mexico.

As of Nov. 1, the singer said the European tour was on – only now without stage presentation. Cat Power complained about not having funds to do the light show and noted that her angioedema “is from low immune & is caused by stress.”

Now she has more to say about angioedema and how it’s affected her tour. The following statement was posted on her Instagram account Nov. 5, as well as her Twitter page and website.

“As many of my fans know, I’ve been suffering from angioedema. It can attack at random & is extremely frightening and dangerous when it hits my throat, windpipe, or tongue, and I’ve been hospitalized for it eight times since the first attack, 2 DAYS AFTER MY RECORD RELEASE. Since then, I worked very very hard with all the best allergists, cardiologists, neurologists, accupuncurists, homeopathists & renowned healers that I could find, Body Talk, Reiki, Yoga, etc. so that I COULD DO THIS AMERICAN TOUR. I did my best & I want to do MORE & BETTER.”

She went on to say that she was postponing the European tour until early next year so she could go home and focus on her health regiment.

“Everything I do regarding my career, I FIRST, think of my fans and this world we all share,” she added. But right now, I HAVE TO think of myself because I have to learn trough meditation & being clear from alcohol & cigarettes & red meat and lots of rest amongst my menagerie of doctors…. I have to think of MYSELF right now because I have to now LEARN to heal myself.”
