EMAs Go Stateside

The MTV Europe Music Awards turned out to be a glitzy show, even if most of the top gongs ended up on the other side of the Atlantic.

Taylor Swift and Justin Bieber took three awards apiece, although the real show-stealers were Carly Rae Jepsen and South Korean pop sensation Psy  who was in every backstage camera shot before appearing onstage to show off the “Gangnam Style” dance moves that have become such a hit.

The best act from the UK’s side of the pond was One Direction  which won for best new act and biggest fans, but on this occasion the act couldn’t pick up the prizes as it’s touring Stateside.

Swift picked up awards for best female, best live act and best look at the EMA bash in Frankfurt Nov. 12, but Bieber equaled that by winning best male, best world act and best pop.

Acts performing at the ceremony included Jepsen, The KillersRita OraAlicia KeysMuse and Pitbull.

The other MTV Europe Award winners were, Nicki Minaj (best hip-hop), Han Geng (best worldwide act), Linkin Park (best rock act), David Guetta (best electronic act), Lana Del Rey (best alternative act) Psy (best video) and Whitney Houston (global icon), which Keys accepted on behalf of the late soul singer’s family.
