A dreamlike concert has been organized to benefit the victims of Hurricane Sandy – and it involves someone once known in the music biz – a former promoter named Harvey Weinstein.

Jon Bon JoviBilly JoelAlicia KeysPaul McCartneyBruce Springsteen & The E Street BandRoger WatersKanye West and The Who are on the lineup for “12-12-12 (A Concert For Sandy Relief)” at NYC’s Madison Square Garden.

“Other top artists” are to be announced.

The concert is a joint effort by major players in film, music and live events and is being produced by Madison Square Garden Company Executive Chairman James Dolan, Clear Channel Entertainment Enterprises President John Sykes and Weinstein, co-founder and chairman of The Weinstein Company.

Before Weinstein was known as the real King of all Media, he was a Buffalo promoter. He, his brother and Corky Burger formed Harvey & Corky Productions, promoting independent rock concerts.

“It was a concert production company,” Weinstein recently told blogger Scott Feinberg. “Basically, when I went to school at the University of Buffalo, I had to earn my keep, so at 19 years old we formed a company to produce concerts because the University of Buffalo stopped producing concerts. So we raised money privately and produced concerts. And I thought that would be my ticket to meeting somebody who could help me get in the movie business.”
And now the snake has eaten its tail.

The lineup was announced via all 850 Clear Channel radio stations nationwide as well as on their websites and iHeartRadio, and on cable channel Fuse.

“‘12-12-12’ is shaping up to be a showcase of music royalty,” the producers said in a joint statement. “The response from the entertainment community to help those most affected by Hurricane Sandy has been nothing short of astounding.  We expect to announce additional legendary performers in the near future and we are confident that the event will ensure those in need will not be forgotten, and vital aid will be directed to rebuilding our communities along the East Coast.”

While a ticketing on-sale date has yet to be announced, producers are promising more information, including VIP package details, will be announced in the coming days.
