Jimi Hendrix Rocking A Theatre Near You

Jimi Hendrix’s historic 1969 Woodstock performance is coming to the big screen. The worldwide theatrical release of “Hendrix 70: Live At Woodstock” begins next week in select cinemas, celebrating what would have been the rocker’s 70th birthday.

“Hendrix 70: Live At Woodstock” comes to you from the archive of film footage captured at the Bethel, N.Y., festival by “Woodstock” director Michael Wadleigh and his team of camera operators and support personnel. The film features the original 16mm footage digitally restored along with a new 5.1 audio surround mix by Eddie Kramer, who served as Jimi’s recording engineer throughout his career and who originally recorded the Woodstock festival.

Before showing off Jimi’s unforgettable performance, the documentary highlights the struggles that organizers went through to put on the festival and book the legendary guitarist. Fans will be treated to never before seen footage and interviews with Kramer, as well as Jimi’s band members Billy Cox and Mitch Mitchell, and Woodstock promoter Michael Lang.

Songs performed in original sequence are: “Message To Love,” “Spanish Castle Magic,” “Red House,” “Lover Man,” “Foxy Lady,” “Jam Back At The House,” “Izabella,” “Fire,” “Voodoo Child (Slight Return),” “Star Spangled Banner,” “Purple Haze,” “Woodstock Improvisation,” “Villanova Junction,” and “Hey Joe.”

“All of us at Experience Hendrix are thrilled with the fact that ‘Live At Woodstock’ will be shown in theaters,” Janie Hendrix, Jimi’s sister and CEO of Experience Hendrix, said. “This film reflects a legendary event in our history as well as a true pinnacle of Jimi’s career. We celebrate his 70th birthday as we continue to celebrate his legacy.”

The limited screenings kick off Nov. 26, the day before Jimi’s b-day. The film hits theaters in the U.S. Nov. 28, followed by additional screenings in the states through mid-January.

Lucky U.S. cities screening “Hendrix 70: Live At Woodstock” include Los Angeles, New York City, Chicago, Cincinnati, Miami, Seattle, San Francisco, Las Vegas, Indianapolis, Cincinnati, Atlanta, Houston and Miami.
