A Few More Things: 50 Cent, Wayne Coyne & Florence Welch

50 Cent announces his new boxing promotions company, The Flaming Lips’ Wayne Coyne and a grenade recently caused flight delays at an Oklahoma City airport, and Florence & The Machine’s Florence Welch talks about what she’ll do during her year off.

Officially launched this week, the name of 50 Cent’s new company is SMS Promotions. The boxing promotions company has already signed four fighters: former featherweight title holder Yuriorkis Gamboa, super middle weight contender Andre Dirrell, Australian IBF featherweight titlist Billy Dib and featherweight contender Celestino Caballero.

An announcement notes that SMS Promotions was recently granted a promoters license by the Nevada State Athletic Commission after previously being approved for a license in New York.

SMS Promotions is co-promoting Gamboa’s upcoming bout Dec. 8 on the Pacquiao-Marquez IV undercard at Las Vegas’ MGM Grand Garden Arena.

“I love boxing and have always been a big fan of the sport, so it feels especially great for me to be involved with the game at this level,” Curtis “50 Cent” Jackson said. “My goal is to build SMS Promotions into one of boxing’s most respected promoters and bring the best fights to audiences nationwide.”

Reports surfaced today about an incident Wayne Coyne was involved with involving a grenade at the Oklahoma City airport. Um, yeah. According to a police report posted online by Fuse.tv, TSA agents discovered a grenade in the Flaming Lips frontman’s luggage Nov. 10 at 12:52 p.m.

Coyne said the grenade “was given to him at a party in Arkansas on November 4, 2012. He advised it was a grenade but said it was dead and was painted.” A TSA bomb specialist confirmed that the grenade was not live and was indeed painted gold, with a hole in the bottom.

The shenanigans forced the airport to be shut down during the incident and some travelers apparently missed their flights.

“Sorry Sorry Sorry!! Everyone that was inconvenienced because of my grenade at OKC airport!!” Coyne tweeted Nov. 10.

Earlier this year Florence & The Machine singer Florence Welch broke the news that she planned to take a year off from touring. Now she’s discussing her plans after she completes the rest of her European tour.

Welch told the London Evening Standard she’s going to write a musical with her school pal and film costume designer Sophie Hart-Walsh.

“It would be amazing to get it into the West End. That’s obviously the dream goal,” Welch said.

“I’ve been on tour since I was 21. I need a break and to have the chance to do normal things, like go to the supermarket and hang out with my friends.”
