Moogfest’s New Name

The annual festival in Asheville, N.C., honoring the legacy of synthesizer pioneer Dr. Bob Moog has a new name and quite possibly a new time period with Moogfest becoming the Mountain Oasis Electronic Music Summit.

This particular turn of events has to do with licensing. Moogfest’s promoter, AC Entertainment, says Moog Music Incorporated declined to relicense the Moogfest name to the company.

“We received a letter from them following this year’s festival, so we have no choice really but to re-name it,” AC Entertainment CEO Ashley Capps said. “We have enjoyed booking, marketing and producing our event for our fans and want to continue with them on this creative journey.”

Moogfest has seen its share of top-notch talent during the past three years. Brian EnoMassive AttackRichie HawtinCarl CraigOrbitalTangerine Dream, and Thievery Corporation are just a few of the artists that have appeared at Moogfest.

Along with the name change, AC Entertainment is contemplating switching to a different weekend for the festival, which for the past three years has taken place at the end of October. But don’t switch your Halloween travel plans just yet. Capps said a calendar switch is just one of many options.

“We’re taking this opportunity to rethink the event a bit and challenge ourselves,” Capps said. “While we are still focused on Halloween weekend, that time of year has its difficulties and we’ve been encouraged to consider other options.”

Details about Mountain Oasis Electronic Music Summit will be released in 2013. Meanwhile, the festival has already established its web HQ. Click here for details.
