Odds & Ends: Charity Edition

U2 has a new T-shirt out to benefit Amnesty International, Owl City is headlining a free show this weekend for The Salvation Army’s Red Kettle Campaign, and Washington, D.C.’s 9:30 Club’s annual Rockin’ Raffle is ongoing now.

U2 teamed up with Hard Rock International on the T-shirt, the latest in the brand’s Signature Series program benefiting causes around the world. The back of the shirt features the signatures of each member of the Irish rock band.

The U2 Signature Series: Edition 30 T-shirt, as seen in the photo below, is available now online and at Rock Shops at Hard Rock Cafes locations in New York City, London and Dublin. You can find the shirt in Hard Rock Cafes, Hotels and Casinos worldwide in February. Hard Rock is donating 15 percent of the retail price to Amnesty Intentional.

“I hope this T-shirt generates loads of cash for Amnesty International and their tireless work towards the release of prisoners of conscience all around the world,” said The Edge. “Plus there’s a guitar on it – so it’s a win-win as far as I’m concerned.”

The 9:30 Club is once again giving away a year’s worth of concert tickets in the name of charity. The D.C. venue’s 11th annual holiday raffle runs through the end of the month.

To get a raffle ticket you can either donate an item of nonperishable food or a piece of clean, gently-used clothing. Or you can buy a raffle ticket for $5.

The donations benefit the following local charities: Bread For The City, SOME (So Others May Eat), House Of Ruth, Capital Area Food Bank, D.C. Central Kitchen and Sasha Bruce.

Fans earn one raffle ticket for every item they bring in. The grand prize is a pair of tickets to every show at 9:30 Club in 2013. Secondary prizes include CDs, shirts, gift cards and more.

The grand prize winner will be announced Jan. 1 on the venue’s website. Secondary prizes will be awarded weekly with winner notified by phone throughout the month and possibly into early January.
