DJ Shadow was in the middle of his set at the Mansion Nightclub Dec. 14 when someone, reportedly the promoter, whispered something in his ear, as seen on the embedded video.

Following the encounter, the DJ/producer, whose real name is Josh Davis, turned off the music and addressed his audience:

“I’ve waited a long time to play here, but they said this shit is too future for all y’all.”

After DJ Shadow stepped down, he was replaced by DJ No Máz, reports Crave Online.

Now, one week later, Mansion Nightclub has issued an apology:

“We offer our most sincere apologies to DJ Shadow and his fans for his set being cut short at Mansion this past weekend. This error should not have happened and will not happen again, especially as we pride ourselves on creating an environment that cultivates and respects innovators such as DJ Shadow. We have learned a lot from this error and made changes within our organization to ensure that Mansion’s vision, and the vision of our guests, will never be compromised again.”

The Mansion Nightclub gig was one of the last stops on DJ Shadow’s All Basses Covered Tour which included performances in Chicago, Boston, Detroit, New York City and New Orleans. As far as we know, none of the venues in those cities curtailed his performance for being “too future.”
