Park-N-Party In Lincoln
A parking lot being built at the new
The parking lot will have 1,400 spaces and cost about $5.1 million, according to arena coordinator Dan Marvin. However, it is also designed to accommodate a stage on its southern edge, and the lot would convert to a natural amphitheatre that could hold 20,000 to 30,000 people.
There has been a lack of space for big events in Lincoln and the city has to close off downtown streets for them, according to Martin. Roads would remain open if the parking lot was used for events, he said. Among the events are Ribfest, Celebrate Lincoln and car shows.
The parking lot will have permanent transformers to provide electricity for small events, but bands will be required to bring in generators for large concerts.
The final beam for the arena was recently lifted into place, and it is expected to house the University of Nebraska basketball program in the fall.
