MassConcerts Buys Palladium

MassConcerts promoter John Peters has added a new venue to his portfolio with his purchase of The Palladium in Worcester, Mass.

Peters, who already booked acts at the venue, scored the 2,160-capacity Palladium for $1.475 million, according to the Worcester Telegram & Gazette.

“He deserves the building,” former co-owner John Fischer told the paper. “He’s the guy that’s been keeping it open for years.”

Fischer, along with John Sousa, reportedly bought the venue 22 years ago with the intention of razing the structure to make way for an office building and Holiday Inn.

But economic downturn forced a change of plans and the 85-year-old building has remained an entertainment venue, drawing artists as varied as Bob DylanPrinceFoo Fighters and Jay-Z to a number of metal festivals in recent years.

“I really don’t understand the music that kids like today,” Fischer added. “This sale is the best decision for all. We never planned on getting into the entertainment business and MassConcerts is great at what it does.”

Upcoming artists on the books include UnderoathThe AlmostBlack Veil Brides and For Today, among others.
