Shapiro Makes Capitol Purchase

Promoter Peter Shapiro has made things official with The Capitol Theatre  where he spent more than $2 million on renovations and signed a long-term lease in 2011.

Shapiro is now the owner of the Port Chester, N.Y., venue, following an $11.5 million agreement with previous owner Marvin Ravikoff, according to the Wall Street Journal.

“I’m doubling down,” Shapiro told the paper. “I decided to have this theater for the rest of my life.”

The 1,835-capacity venue scored new sound, lighting and video systems during renovations, along with new carpets, paint and bathrooms. The 85-year-old theatre is listed in the National Register of Historic Places and boasts a 65-foot domed ceiling with medallions, columns and an arch over the stage.

Artists including Bob DylanThe RootsMy Morning JacketAl Green and Fiona Apple played the venue’s opening dates beginning in September.

Upcoming acts on the books include Leon RussellMorrissey and Trey Anastasio.
