Bette Back On Broadway

Bette Midler is heading back to Broadway for the first time in 30 years to take a spin as Hollywood superagent Sue Mengers.

The one-person show, “I’ll Eat You Last: A Chat With Sue Mengers,” is scheduled to open April 24 at a Shubert theatre to be determined.

Mengers got her start as a receptionist at a boutique firm before working for ICM and William Morris, where she handled artists including Barbra Streisand, Steve McQueen, Faye Dunaway and Michael Caine, the New York Times reported.

Playwright John Logan, who also wrote the screenplay for the James Bond film “Skyfall,” told the Times he always had Midler in mind while writing the play.

“She’s a proper stage animal,” he said. “In a one-person show in particular, you need someone who can hold an audience, who connects with an audience in a really deeply visceral way, and that’s Bette through and through.”
