Summer Sonic Dates, And More

Creativeman Productions finally announced the dates for Summer Sonic, one of Japan’s major summer music festivals.

It will take place the weekend of Aug. 10-11 simultaneously at the QVC stadium and Makuhari Messe convention center in Chiba/Tokyo, and the Maishima public site in Osaka.

In addition, there will be an all-night rave called Sonicmania the night before the festival starts in Makuhari.

No acts have been revealed, but the promoter says headliners will be announced soon.

Creativeman did announce lineups for its twin one-day springtime festivals, however.

Punkspring 2013 will bein Tokyo, Osaka and Nagoya  March 28-31.

The roster includes WeezerNOFXSimple PlanPennywiseLagwagon, Man With a Mission and others.

Springroove 2013 will be in Tokyo and Kobe the weekend of March 30-31 featuring Ne-YoAviciiT.O.K.Zedd and others. Tickets go on sale in early February.

In other Japan concert news, the Gods seem to have conspired to create a traffic jam of topical foreign acts all converging on Tokyo during the last week of January and first week of February.

Tickets for Bruno Mars (Jan. 26) and Carly Rae Jepsen (Feb. 1) sold out immediately, while tickets for club dates with GotyeDeath Grips and Alabama Shakes, all playing on Jan. 31 but at different venues, remain very much available.

A double bill of Crystal Castles and Sleigh Bells on Jan. 30 is also being promoted. When it rains, it pours.
