Promoter Bob Peyton Dies
Peyton was a longtime promoter in Hawaii, starting as a production manager for Tom Moffatt, one of the best-known promoters on the islands. Since the ’60s, Peyton was involved in concerts ranging from Bette Midler to Mikhail Baryshnikov to B.B. King. He ran promotion company Jackaway Peyton Inc. from 1986 to 1997 alongside partner Neal Jackaway, who told Pollstar that Peyton was a good man and not one to seek publicity.
Peyton had been hospitalized at Castle Medical Center since Aug. 17, apparently for complications from diabetes. His left leg was amputated below the knee and Jackaway said Peyton was under consideration for a similar operation for his right side when he died.
Peyton’s name appeared in recent media reports because he was an intermediary between the University of Hawaii and a would-be middle agent that was to provide the school with a Stevie Wonder booking. The “agent” took off with $200,000 of the school’s money, and school officials were scrutinized for their involvement. Peyton himself had invested $50,000 into the booking.
