BDO Remains On Gold Coast

The Gold Coast will remain the Queensland home of the traveling Big Day Out festival in Australia for a further five years.

Its longtime home in the state,  Parkland, will be turned into an athlete’s village starting next year for the 2018 Commonwealth Games. An alternate site suggested by the festival was rejected by the Government.

Festival chief executive Adam Zammit went public with his plan to stage outside the Gold Coast, which gets millions of tourism dollars as a result of 45,000 attendees.

Three other cities – Cairns, Mackay and Townsville – made bids for the festival, and Zammit discussed the move with three other festival sites. But a last-minute January meeting with tourism minister Jann Stuckey saw the Government strike a deal to keep Big Day Out there until 2018. A new site will be announced soon.
