D.O.A. Wrapping It Up
Ever since D.O.A. formed in 1978, the Vancouver, British Columbia, band has had Joe Keithley at its center, the only member to stay in the group since its beginning. Now Keithley is seeking the New Democratic Party nomination in Coquitlam, British Columbia, to become a member of the Legislative Assembly.
For D.O.A.’s fans, Keithley’s entry into politics probably seems like a natural extension of the life of Canada’s “Godfather of Punk.” Through its 30 year-plus career, D.O.A. played benefits for Rape Relief, anti-racism, education, anti-globalization, OXFAM, anti-war, First Nations Rights, anti-censorship, environmental issues and other causes, all under their slogan, “Talk-Action=0.”
“I’ve been working on trying to change Canada and this world into a better place from outside the system for the last 35 years,’ Keithley said. “Now I will do my utmost to effect that change from inside the system.”
But before Keithley changes Canada’s body politic from the inside, his band has a few dates left to play. The journey begins with the band’s final shows in Vancouver as well as a few more British Columbia gigs before heading to California for four dates in the Sunshine State. Canada follows.
