Delaware Law Lures Festivals
Delaware legislators have introduced a measure that could make the state a friendlier place for festivals and other large events.
Rep. Bill Carson’s House Bill 16 would exempt festivals from a law that prohibits licensed alcohol sellers from sharing their profits with the promoters of such events.
“The removal of this prohibition is intended to attract large events from other jurisdictions where such revenue sharing is customary,” the bill states.
Carson told the local News Journal the issue with existing liquor laws was brought to his attention following last year’s Firefly music festival in Dover.
“We didn’t realize how it worked,” he said. “In negotiating with the casinos, this was agreed upon.”
The Dover International Speedway that hosted Firefly last year has reportedly shown support for the measure. Firefly returns to the speedway June 21-23.
