Solo Dates For My Morning Jacket’s Jim James

Jim James is doing his own thing next month to promote the release of his debut solo full-length album. So far, only a handful of dates are booked but an announcement promises that the shows “will be the first of many to come this year.”

Regions Of Light And Sound Of God is due out Feb. 5 on ATO Records.

The My Morning Jacket frontman previously put out an EP of George Harrison and Beatles covers, titled Tribute To, in 2009 under the pseudonym Yim Yames. He also recorded and toured as a member of Monsters Of Folk with M. Ward as well as Conor Oberst and Mike Mogis of Bright Eyes. The band’s debut self-titled album was released in 2009. Last year James (or rather, Yames) toured with Jay Farrar (Son Volt, Gob Iron, Uncle Tupelo), Will Johnson (Centro-matic, South San Gabriel) and Anders Parker (Varnaline, Gob Iron) in support of the group’s Woody Guthrie tribute album, New Multitudes.

Before embarking on the brief February tour, James will make an appearance at the Feb. 8 MusiCares Person Of The Year Gala in Los Angeles. This year’s honoree is Bruce Springsteen.

The headline dates are booked Feb. 18 in Philadelphia at Johnny Brenda’s, Feb. 19 at Brooklyn’s Music Hall of Williamsburg, and Feb. 20 in New York City at The McKittrick Hotel.

Presale tickets for the Feb. 18-19 shows are available now to My Morning Jacket’s Roll Call members. Tickets go on sale to the public Jan. 18 at 12 p.m. EST.

The NYC gig takes place following a performance of Punchdrunk’s theatre production “Sleep No More.” Tickets, which include entry to “Sleep No More,” are on sale now.

James will also perform at the Tibet House Benefit Concert at NYC’s Carnegie Hall Feb. 21, along with Patti Smith, Tune-Yards, Rahzel and Philip Glass.
