National Theatre’s New Life

The 1,672-capacity National Theatre in Washington, D.C., will feature a concert by Bryan Adams Jan. 26 to launch the venue’s new beefed-up programming.

SMG and Jam Theatricals signed a deal last fall to take over day-to-day operations and booking the theatre, that opened in 1835, and has had limited offerings of late, according to the Washington Post

The theatre has nearby competition from the Kennedy Center’s 2,362-capacity Opera House, according to the paper.

The nonprofit facility that has hosted stars including Tallulah Bankhead, Laurence Olivier, George C. Scott, Helen Hayes, Sting and more will be assessed as to needed upgrades and repairs.

Meanwhile, “Monty Python’s Spamalot” returns to the theatre April 10-14, according to the venue’s website.
