Lupe Fiasco Gets The Boot
Fiasco was the headliner at an unofficial, pre-inaugural private function hosted by start-up group Hypervocal which describes itself as “Your Internet Sherpas.” However, Fiasco isn’t exactly a fan of President Obama and on past occasions has criticized his foreign policy.
Evidently not one to let an opportunity go to waste, Fiasco performed “a 30-minute politically charged” set at the Jan. 20 event, according to the New York Daily News.
But 30 minutes probably wasn’t the amount of time Fiasco planned to perform. Instead, it was how long he spent performing before some rather large men in suits ushered him off of the stage.
Reports indicate that Fiasco had stretched one song – “Words I Never Said” to 30 minutes and was basically repeating himself over and over, including the lyrics, “Limbaugh is a racist, Glenn Beck is a racist, Gaza Strip was getting bombed, and Obama didn’t say shit.”
After Fiasco was escorted off the stage by security guards, event organizer StartUp RockOn issued a statement saying the ejection wasn’t a case of stifling free expression and that other considerations led to the rapper’s ejection.
“We are staunch supporters of free speech, and free political speech. This was not about his opinions. Instead, after a bizarrely repetitive jarring performance that left the crowd vocally dissatisfied, organizers decided to move on to the next act.”
