David Byrne Joins Benefit

David Byrne was a last-minute addition to a Jan. 21 benefit concert in Hobart for victims of Tasmania’s lethal bushfires. It was organized by the MONA FOMA festival, which is curated by Violent Femmes member Brian Ritchie.

Byrne, one of the performers at the festival, appeared during a set by Seattle composer Jherek Bischoff and English author Neil Gaiman.

The show was headlined by The Hoodoo Gurus, The Break (a surf band with Ritchie and some former Midnight Oil members), Kate Miller-HeidkeThe LemonheadsEvan DandoSpencer P. Jones and Taiko Drum.

The 10-day Tamworth country music festival also announced The Country Relief benefit for Jan. 24, with multi-platinum troubadour Lee KernaghanYou Am I frontman Tim Rogers and Tasmania’s The Wolfe Bros., among others.
