Marquee Makeover

Marquee New York, once one of New York City’s top nightclubs, has reopened after a major renovation.

The Chelsea club knocked out some interior walls to create an open space with 30-foot ceilings, a massive LED wall and a $500,000 sound and light system, according to Vibe.

The remodeled club’s Jan. 16 debut featured Swizz Beatz and Busta Rhymes performing for a crowd that included TimbalandEve, Selita Ebanks, Tyson Beckford, Marc Anthony, and Akon.

“The old Marquee was based on the scene, and the who’s who of New York, while the new Marquee is really about being a music venue,” co-owner Jason Strauss told Vibe. “Having Marquee as one giant room instead of three segmented rooms, as it was for the last 10 years, is a testament to the type of talent we’re going to be delivering on the stage.”

The 900-capacity club is expected to focus on dance music, including David Guetta Feb. 6. It also has Trombone Shorty & Orleans Avenue on the books Feb. 13.
