Hanging With Mr. Kelly

R. Kelly’s performance at a nightclub in Winston-Salem, N.C., Jan. 20 left a lot to be desired for the fans who paid $35 to $55 a ticket to see him.

Turns out there was some confusion all around regarding the show that was billed as “An Intimate Birthday Celebration” with the performer at Ziggy’s, according to the Winston-Salem Journal.

Ticketholders expected a concert with Kelly, but it turns out Kelly was paid to just make an appearance – a la Paris Hilton or Kim Kardashian – by Ziggy’s reps.

Kelly reportedly went on stage late, sang a few lyrics of “Bump ‘N Grind” with the audience, then turned the show over to a DJ as he smoked a cigar and drank.

Several hundred attendees were said to be livid and voiced their anger on the Internet.

Ziggy’s co-owner Charles Womack, who said he paid $25,000 for the celebrity appearance, told the paper he learned a hard lesson.

Ziggy’s posted on its Facebook page it is offering vouchers to a future show to make up for the misunderstanding.

“We are more than disappointed in what transpired during this event. We are not in the business to deceive any patrons, and we take what happened seriously. We sincerely apologize to our long time fans, and hope to continue to bring you some of the best entertainment in the industry.”
