Morrissey Hospitalized For Bleeding Ulcer

Morrissey’s tour has been put on hold once more. Last week he postponed a few gigs “due to band member illness” and now we’ve learned that Moz spent the weekend in the hospital, resulting in six more shows being crossed off his schedule.

A spokeswoman for the former Smiths frontman released a statement saying that Morrissey had checked into Beaumont Hospital in Royal Oak, Mich., on Friday. The British singer/songwriter was diagnosed with a bleeding ulcer.

“Morrissey is expected to make a full recovery and thanks everyone concerned for their support during this time,” his representative Lauren Papapietro said in a statement. Reuters reported Sunday she “declined to say if he remains hospitalized.”

The postponed dates were scheduled:

Jan. 28 – Asheville, N.C., The Orange Peel
Jan. 29 – Nashville, Tenn., Ryman Auditorium
Jan. 31 – Atlanta, Ga., Cobb Energy Performing Arts Centre
Feb. 2 – Lawrence, Kan., Liberty Hall
Feb. 5 – Clear Lake, Iowa, Surf Ballroom & Museum
Feb. 6 – Lincoln, Neb., Rococo Theatre

Fans should hold onto their tickets because rescheduled dates will be announced in the coming days. A statement on the venues’ websites says, “Morrissey apologizes greatly for any and all inconvenience and looks forward to continuing his US tour.”

Morrissey is expected to return to the stage Feb. 9 in Las Vegas at The Chelsea At The Cosmopolitan.

Last week he called off gigs scheduled Jan. 24-26. The shows had already been rescheduled once before when Morrissey postponed his fall 2012 tour to be with his mother who was hospitalized in England.
