Music Attorney Braun Dies

David Braun, 81, one of the most powerful attorneys in the music business, died in Santa Barbara, Calif., Jan. 30.

Braun was noted for his negotiations on the part of musicians and improved their bottom line – namely with royalty rates.

Braun became a partner at Hardee, Barovick, Konecky & Braun in the early ’70s and is known for mentoring many attorneys in the music business.

Some of his achievements included negotiating George Harrison’s settlement with The Beatles and Michael Jackson’s deal for Thriller, as noted by Variety.

He also co-produced The Band’s farewell movie, “The Last Waltz.”
