Redbox Expands Ticket Offerings
DVD rental company Redbox is rolling out its ticketing component to another market – Los Angeles – following a number of new deals with ticketing companies.
Redbox has inked agreements with Agile Ticketing, Paciolan, ShoWare, Ticketfly, TicketMob and Caesars Entertainment, along with New Era Tickets in Philadelphia, where the service debuted in October.
Angelenos can now score tickets to comedy shows at the Laugh Factory and Improv Comedy Clubs, concerts, motorsport events, museums, local attractions and even Las Vegas productions through Redbox kiosks.
And since the company is the known for delivering an economical evening of entertainment (it costs $1.20 to rent a DVD for the night), Redbox is keeping with its tradition of offering high value by keeping ticket charges low.
“Where we’re going to make our stamp is on fees,” Redbox Sr. VP Mark Achler told Pollstar. “We think the fees are too high, frankly. We’re just going to charge $1.”
Achler added that while Redbox would love to help inventory owners market discount tickets, the company is staying out of the pricing side of things.
“We don’t want to be in the business of telling you how to price your inventory,” he said. “Unlike other discounting channels that mandate pretty aggressive discounts … you set the pricing.”
That being said, many events now featured on the company’s 1,800 Los Angeles kiosks do include discounts that could help spur impulse buys, generate awareness and keep the service competitive in the ticket market.
“We’re helping all of our customers discover great local entertainment,” Achler said. “We are a very powerful local marketing arm for the inventory owner.”
About 58 million people used Redbox each month during Q3 of 2012 to rent a movie or game, the company said.
