Roberts Stadium Demo Collapse
After months of legal holdups over the fate of the shuttered Roberts Stadium in Evansville, Ind., the aging arena recently tumbled down in a hurry just as demo got under way.
Although 16 connected steel trusses were expected to come down one by one Jan. 25, the entire venue collapsed as workers were torching through the sixth individual beam, local building authority director David Rector told the Courier Press.
No one was injured during the collapse, he added.
The demolition is expected to wrap up by early May and the site will be converted to a park. Roberts Stadium was closed in late 2011 with the opening of the $127 million
Here’s a video from an earlier phase of the demolition process.
