Day On The Green Celebrates 300

The successful A Day on the Green winery circuit celebrated its 300th show Jan. 26 at Rochford Wines in Victoria’s Yarra Valley, Australia.

It took place on Australia Day, which is why headliners Elvis Costello & The Imposters slipped the Aussie anthem “Waltzing Matlida” into Costello’s “(I Don’t Want To Go To) Chelsea.”

Costello’s fast-paced, 75-minute, 18-song set was different from the one he’d been playing in theatres, drawing back to 1977’s My Aim Is True.

The afternoon also included sets from ‘80s vintage acts, guitar power pop Sunnyboys  R&B group Jo Jo Zep & the Falcons, alt-country singer Tex Perkins and one-time Sports singer Stephen Cummings.

A Day On The Green was set up by Roundhouse Entertainment’s husband-and-wife team Mick and Anthea Newton, with Frontier Touring’s Michael Gudinski.

From a sole winery outside Melbourne, Roundhouse has expanded to 40 to 50 shows per season through Australia and New Zealand, drawing 2 million consumers.
