Big Day Out On Small Screen

As part of its successful 2013 restructure, Australia’s Big Day Out scrapped the New Zealand stop, with founder Ken West calling it “a financial drain.”

But some New Zealanders did fly to Australia to catch headliners Red Hot Chili Peppers as well as The KillersBand of Horses and Vampire Weekend.

Others watched on the small screen Feb. 18 when MTV’s World Stage screened the Jan. 18 Sydney show, which drew 57,000.
