Odds & Ends: Billy Corgan, Justin Timberlake, Aimee Mann & Ted Leo

Billy Corgan and his Chicago-based wrestling company star in a wacky commercial for a local furniture company, Justin Timberlake is booked for five straight nights on “Late Night with Jimmy Fallon,” and Aimee Mann and Ted Leo have embarked on a new collaboration together.

For readers who don’t live in the Chicago area, Walter E. Smithe is a furniture retailer that’s known for witty and memorable television commercials” (as well as “well-made, stylish and functional furniture and home accents.”) The company just took its ads to a whole new level thanks to Billy Corgan and his Resistance Pro wresting company.

Check out the Smashing Pumpkins frontman playing musical chairs with the three Walter E. Smithe brothers, which leads to a full-on fight with a few Resistance Pro wrestlers. No Walter E. Smithe chairs were harmed in this ad.

In exchange for Corgan’s appearance in the ad, the Smithe brothers donated $50,000 to animal charity PAWS Chicago.

In an announcement proclaiming that “it’s like Christmas in March!!,” Justin Timberlake has revealed he’s scheduled a week of appearances on “Late Night with Jimmy Fallon” in addition to signing as the March 9 host and musical guest on “Saturday Night Live.”
