The grant was given to the city last November as part of the Gulf Tourism and Seafood Promotional Fund, which was reportedly established as part of a proposed settlement with BP in the wake of the 2010 Deepwater Horizon oil spill, according to The Birmingham News.
Meanwhile, the British oil company is reportedly scheduled to face civil charges related to the oil rig explosion that caused damage to five Gulf states at a federal trial in New Orleans Feb. 25.
Concerts scheduled at the Wharf so far include Luke Bryan with Thompson Square and Florida Georgia Line March 14, Kenny Chesney with Eric Church April 11, Alabama July 5 and Dave Matthews Band July 23.
