Cancellations: Mark McGrath, Mike Tyson

The “Mark McGrath & Friends Cruise” scheduled for October won’t be sailing as planned and famed pugilist Mike Tyson has K.O.ed a few dates from his his “Undisputed Truth” tour.

Originally set to take place Oct. 18-21, the Mark McGrath & Friends Cruise from Miami to Nassau, Bahamas, was to include performances by Spin Doctors, Smash Mouth, Cracker, Vertical Horizon, Verve Pipe, Marcy Playground and, of course, Sugar Ray.

But those plans sank with the announcement that the cruise has been canceled.  Why?  Evidently the recent feces-laden odyssey of the good ship Carnival Triumph might have put the kibosh on McGrath’s ocean-going plans.  Although the McGrath & Friends Cruise website simply states the trip is no more, McGrath provided some Twitter insight, tweeting “My apologies, I’m really bummed as well … that poop cruise did us no favors.”

Of course, the “poop cruise” McGrath referred to is this month’s debacle at sea that began when the Carnival Triumph lost power and floated in the Gulf Of Mexico for several days before tugboats hauled the ship and its frazzled passengers to Mobile, Ala.

Boxing’s former heavyweight champion of the world, Mike Tyson, has punched a few dates out of his schedule.  Having done the Spike Lee-directed “Undisputed Truth” on Broadway last year, Tyson is taking his two-hour monologue gig on the road, playing such markets as Detroit, St. Louis, Atlanta and Washington, D.C.

However, some shows have been pulled from the schedule, including stops in Cincinnati, Kansas City and Louisville.  While Tyson’s March 5 San Diego appearance is still on, the venue has been switched from San Diego Civic Theatre to the Balboa Theatre.

But not all hope is lost.  Announcing the changes, Tyson hinted that he might be able to reschedule the shows.

“Due to circumstances beyond my control, certain cities on my ‘Undisputed Truth’ tour have been canceled,” Tyson said.  “I was looking forward to doing a great show for you and hope at a later date that I am still able to do so.”
