Corn Palace Improvements

The city of Mitchell, S.D., has issued $6.5 million in bonds to improve the historic 3,218-capacity Corn Palace

The renovation, one of four projects for which the city issued bonds, would add an elevator, more handicapped parking and a new auxiliary gymnasium.

The Corn Palace opened in 1892, was replaced in 1905 and again in 1921, and is known for its exterior murals designed completely from corn. Last year it hosted acts like Jake Owen and The Oak Ridge Boys.
