The Kennedy Center For the Performing Arts  n Washington, D.C., which has featured world-renowned symphonies, dance companies, theater and jazz over the years, is expanding its offerings for the 2013-2014 season to include hip hop.

The weeklong “One Mic: Hip-Hop Culture Worldwide” festival will feature artists such as Nas, K’naan and Calle 13 alongside DJs, a B-Boy dance competition and graffiti exhibition.

“Hip hop is clearly something new and different for us,” Kennedy Center Michael Kaiser said. “I think to do something very current is important. We’re trying to speak to many different audiences.”
