Spinners’ Bobbie Smith Dies

Bobbie Smith, 76, original lead singer of R&B group The Spinners  died of complications from pneumonia and the flu March 16 in Orlando, Fla.

He had also been diagnosed with lung cancer last fall. The group, known for hits such as “I’ll Be Around” and “That’s What Girls Are Made For,” earned six Grammy nominations and nearly a dozen gold records.

Smith and Henry Fambrough, the remaining two original members, continued to perform with different lineups of the group through last year, according to the Los Angeles Times.
