Trouble In Paradise

Jimmy Buffett’s Margaritaville Casino and Restaurant in Biloxi, Miss., isn’t having the best of luck.

The casino is being sued by Landry’s Golden Nugget, owner of the Isle Casino Biloxi, over a non-compete agreement. Doug Shipley, former GM of Isle Casino Biloxi, is now with Margaritaville, and is accused of breaking his employment agreement by stealing confidential information.

Meanwhile, Margaritaville was fined $10,000 for not having enough money on hand to pay its patrons and its bills.

Stacey McKay, former marketing director at the Isle, is also alleged to have stolen information from the casino when she followed Shipley to Margaritaville.

“The accusations are groundless,” Michael Cavanaugh, attorney for Margaritaville, told Sun-Herald. He said the lawsuit was brought because the new owners were disappointed that Shipley did not want to stay at the Isle.

Judge Roger Clark has appointed a computer expert to determine if Isle data is on Margaritaville’s computers.
