Billion-Dollar Coliseum
The county-owned Nassau Coliseum in Uniondale, N.Y., could soon be facing a lawsuit from more than 100 laborers including electricians, plumbers and carpenters who claim they’ve been exposed to asbestos at the arena.
The workers have filed notices of claim alleging long-term exposure to asbestos at the arena made them seriously ill.
According to court documents filed by their attorney Joseph Dell, asbestos has been found in the Coliseum’s loading dock as well as its seating, concession and public areas, New York City’s WPIX-TV reported.
“I would not allow anyone in my family to go and I would not go to the Coliseum,” Dell told the station.
He is reportedly seeking $500 million to $1 billion on behalf of the workers, whose complaints are expected to be combined into a class action suit.
A lawyer for Nassau County has said there is “no substance” behind the claims.
