BangTango Inks Telstra Deal
New Australian ticketing agency BangTango’s expanded further into the premium ticket service market with a new partnership with Telstra, the country’s largest telecommunications and media service provider.
The deal, announced April 8, is part of Telstra’s loyalty program for 27 million customers. It provides reserved tickets at least 48 hours ahead of the general public for 20 concerts per year. It also offers soundcheck access, after-parties and signed merchandise.
BangTango’s founder and director, Daniel Popic, called Telstra’s involvement “significant.” Popic’s background is in ticketing and loyalty services. He was Alliances Marketing Manager at Ticketek and before that masterminded the loyalty programs for music retailers HMV and Sanity Music.
The first act under the Telstra team-up is UK singer Olly Murs. Nine Live and Sony Music Entertainment Australia announced April 8 that Murs, who’s notched up major hits downunder, plays Sydney’s Star Event Centre Nov. 9, Newcastle Civic Theatre Nov. 12 and Melbourne Convention and Exhibition Centre Nov. 14.
