Paul Kelly’s Up From Down Under

The Australian singer/songwriter returns to North America for a  run of nightclubs and theatres.  Beginning on the West Coast, the onetime leader of Messengers travels eastward for shows in Denver, Indianapolis, Cleveland, Pittsburgh and other fine locales.

Actually, Paul Kelly won’t be traveling a straight line east.  Instead, he kind of meanders around a bit at first, traveling as far east as Denver than reversing course to play Salt Lake City, San Francisco, Portland and Vancouver and British Columbia in a journey that’s sure to rack up the ol’ tour bus odometer.

Kelly’s latest U.S./Canada visit is in support of his 2012 album, Spring And Fall.  As with many facets of Kelly’s amazing 30-plus year career, the album has a story behind it. This time it’s a tale of Kelly along with his tour guitarist/nephew Dan Kelly and Australian producer/multi-instrumentalist J. Walker sequestering themselves in an isolated country hall in the remote area of South Gippsland in Victoria.  Enduring nasty winter weather including violent storms, floods, power failures and even earthquakes, the three soldiered on and created a compelling and intimate disc in which you can, at times, even hear the sounds of wind and rain in the background.

Arriving in mid-April, Kelly launches the adventure in Santa Barbara, Calif., and keeps on going until reaching Atlanta in June.  Here’s the routing:
