Worker Dies In AT&T Center Fall

A worker fell 70 to 100 feet to his death after losing his balance while removing lighting from a catwalk after a Romeo Santos concert at the AT&T Center in San Antonio, Texas, early April 5.

Dean Williams of Houston was pronounced dead at the scene, according to the San Antonio News-Express. He was wearing a harness connected to a safety line prior to the accident, but unhooked it to step around a beam.

He intended to reattach the harness when he got around the beam, but lost balance and fell onto the stage below, where others were working.

ATT&T Center spokesman Leo Gomez told the paper that Occupational Safety and Health adminsitration inspectors had already been in the building, and spoke with him briefly about the incident.

“This is a sad, sad day and we offer our deepest condolences to the person who lost his life and his family and loved ones,” he said. Gomez added he would have no further comment until an investigation is completed.

Williams was hired by Live Nation, according to the News-Express. The arena is the home venue for the NBA’s San Antonio Spurs and San Antonio Rampage of the American Hockey League, as well as concerts.
